Appointed to the court in Delaware County in 1963 by Governor William W. Scranton, Judge Catania served as a judge in Delaware County for twenty-seven years until his mandated retirement in 1990 at age 70. During that time, he served as President Judge for fourteen years and six years as Administrative Judge.

Prior to service on the Court, Judge Catania represented seven municipalities in Delaware County and was elected Coroner where he served for six years before ascending to the Bench.

Judge Catania was honored to serve as President of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges in 1986-87, and, as Trustee for Temple University, has served his alma mater since 1971.

He has received awards from organizations such as the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, Delaware County Real Estate Board, The Poor Richard’s Club, Sons of Italy, Christopher Columbus Memorial Association, The Delaware County Lawyers’ Club, The Chadwick Award and many, many others.

Judge Catania is considered by most, who have followed his career on the bench, as one of the finest judges Delaware County has ever had. He is widely known and respected for his well-reasoned analysis of legal issues.

Judge Catania is currently of counsel to the Sprague & Sprague law firm and serves as an arbitrator in underinsured and uninsured motor vehicle arbitration proceedings.
