Geoffrey R. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame having been awarded an A.B. in Government and International Studies in 1979. After graduating from Villanova University Garey Hall School of Law in 1982, he clerked for the Honorable Frank J. Montemuro, Jr., at the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. In 1984, he joined the Sprague law firm where he has practiced ever since.
Mr. Johnson practices primarily in the specialties of complex civil litigation, First Amendment litigation, white-collar criminal defense, family law and appellate practice. He has secured multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements in actions ranging from the wrongful death of a teen in a motor vehicle crash to the beating of an engineer by outlaw union members. He has also successfully prosecuted and defended federal civil rights actions obtaining large settlements and verdicts for plaintiffs and dismissal of claims for defendants.
Mr. Johnson has successfully argued several landmark appellate cases in federal and state courts which involve such diverse subject matters as the existence of the neutral reportage privilege in defamation cases and the burden of proof in a reasonable accommodation case under the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.
Mr. Johnson has been rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar and has been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, United States Tax Court, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, as well as the United States District Courts in Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
