          Stephen R. Kurens practices in the areas of civil and appellate litigation. Mr. Kurens has successfully litigated complex cases in Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Virginia and Ohio, as well as the state and federal courts of Pennsylvania.  Before joining Sprague & Sprague, Mr. Kurens specialized in the litigation and trial of catastrophic personal-injury and building collapse litigation on behalf of injured victims.  He has handled many medical malpractice, products liability, federal civil rights, engineering/architectural malpractice, and personal injury matters resulting in seven-figure recoveries.  He has also argued cases involving complex issues of law before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania and Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.  Mr. Kurens has also lectured to members of the Bar on areas of litigation practice and procedure.

          Since joining Sprague & Sprague, Mr. Kurens’ practice has expanded to include the representation of plaintiffs and defendants in litigation matters involving defamation, municipal land use, commercial transactions, employer/employee relations, administrative law, as well as complex personal injury.

          Mr. Kurens is a member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Bars, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.  Mr. Kurens is a 1982 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.  He obtained his law degree from Villanova University School of Law in 1985.  Before attending law school, Mr. Kurens worked as a journalist for the Associated Press, the Philadelphia Bulletin and Philadelphia Magazine.
