Representation of parties in lawsuits arising from the wrongful use of legal proceedings ("Dragonetti" lawsuits).

          The following are examples of our representation in this practice area:

            Sprague & Sprague successfully prosecuted a wrongful use of legal proceedings claim on behalf of two prominent business clients against their former partner and his lawyer, who had falsely accused our clients of racketeering activities in an earlier lawsuit. We obtained a jury verdict of $50,000,000 in compensatory damages and $100,000,000 in punitive damages, the ninth largest jury verdict in the United States in 2001.

            We successfully pursued a claim of wrongful use of legal proceedings against a medical doctor who engaged in fraudulent schemes in both her medical practice and as a litigant in various lawsuits. The claim not only resulted in a significant financial settlement for our client, but also the prosecution and ultimate incarceration of the doctor.
